Doug Wilson
Doug Wilson is the San Jose Sharks’ current general manager and a former ice hockey defenseman. Wilson had a remarkable career, accumulating 237 goals and 590 assists over 16 seasons in the NHL. While he spent the majority of his years playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, he ended his career playing for the San Jose Sharks. Doug was a member of the Sharks in their inaugural season and he served as the first captain in franchise history.
Before coming to San Jose, Doug was playing at an elite level with Chicago. He still holds the Blackhawks franchise record for most goals, assists and points by a defenseman. Doug won the Norris Trophy as best NHL defenseman (nominated five times) and was nominated for the Hart Trophy twice as best NHL player. Just last year, he became the fourth Shark to be inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame.
Despite only playing two seasons for the Sharks, he is arguably one of the most influential people in San Jose Sharks’ history. Doug announced his retirement in 1993 and became San Jose’s general manager in 2003. He is the third longest tenured general manager with 14 seasons. Since becoming the Sharks’ general manager, the Sharks have had the best point percentage (63.1%) in the NHL.
