Jonathan Cheechoo was an electrifying player who was an integral part of the 2005-06 Sharks’ offense success. As the 29th overall pick in the 1999 NHL entry draft, Jonathan would play 501 games recording 305 points (170g, 135a).

Prior to the 2005-06 season, no San Jose Sharks player had won an individual award. That season, Jonathan would win the first and only Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy in Sharks history. With the help of Joe Thornton in his MVP season, Jonathan was able to score 56 goals, a franchise record that he still holds by 12 goals. He entered the NHL during the 2002-03 and since then, only two players have surpassed the 56-goal mark.

Jonathan had an amazing few years with San Jose that helped bring the national spotlight on San Jose as a central part of the NHL. After his time with San Jose came to an end, Jonathan found success in other leagues such as the KHL. He still hasn’t announced his retirement, but his last year in the NHL was the 2009-10 season.
